My All-Time Favorite Go-to Homemade Brownie Recipe
Just last week, my little girl and I made these brownies and sent them with her handmade note to thank Uncle Doc for stitching her up! We ate the corner pieces and now I’m dreaming for more. Another story: my husband and I have actually made a thrifty date night out of baking these and watching a movie!
Preparation: 10 mins
Baking: 18 mins
Servings: 2 dozen bars
2 cups (a 12-oz. pkg.) semi-sweet chocolate morsels, divided (variation: use mint-chocolate, dark chocolate, butterscotch, or other chips or candy pieces for the 2nd cup)
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, cut into pieces (or margarine)
3 large eggs
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (variation: 3/4 cup all-purpose with 1/2 cup whole wheat)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Preheat oven to 350° F and grease a 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
Blend flour, sugar, and baking soda in a medium bowl (let the kids help here!) and set aside.
Melt 1 cup morsels and butter in large, heavy-duty saucepan over low heat; stir until smooth. Remove from heat.
Add in eggs and mix until blended. (Kids can help here, too!) Add dry ingredients and mix until blended. Stir in vanilla, remaining morsels, and nuts. Spread into baking pan.
Bake for 18 to 22 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out mostly clean. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars and enjoy! (For the ultimate indulgence, go ahead and add chocolate icing made from scratch- amazing!)
