So Just How Do You Get Free Stuff at CVS?
So now I’m officially one of those coupon ladies that amazes bystanders, even cashiers, as I dole out my stack of coupons, or “cash” as I like to call it. As a SAHM, I find that taking a little time to make an awesome list of deals is simply part of the job description. Free razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and floss, plus many other incredible deals make CVS part of my weekly errands. What follows are some tips to get you started this weekend!
- Each week, visit My Mothermode for the CVS deals! Also check my savings center for additional great coupons.
- Sign up for a CVS Extra Care card. You can have one store card for every member of the family, including the dog! Also sign up at their website to earn store coupons via email.
- Coupons accepted include manufacturer’s coupons (including Internet printables), CVS coupons, and competitor’s coupons for new or transferred prescriptions. CVS usually does not accept any other store’s coupons.
- Corporate policy is such that you can use one CVS coupon and one Manufacturer coupon per item, and as many Extra Care Bucks (ECB’s) as you would like, up to the total dollar value of your shopping order.
- The registers are not programmed to give you overage, however you should get the items absolutely free!
- You may need fillers. Fillers are small items that will help you “fill up to” the amount you need to buy when you hold a CVS coupon in the $/$$ format (i.e. $5 off a $20 purchase.) Say your total comes out to $19.50, and need $.50 to use the coupon. Get a clearance item, candy, a single pencil….you get the idea. Spend just $.50 to save $5.00!
- Shopping late on Saturday nights will grant you both this week’s and next week’s sale prices. However, you will not earn ECBs on next week’s deals, so leave those off until tomorrow.
- Forgot your Extra Care card? Give the cashier your phone number and your account will be pulled up immediately at the register.
- Please do not loose those hard-earned ECB’s! Cut them off the receipt before you trash it or mail it off for a rebate. I keep mine in a new envelope (pull free ones from junk mail!), ready for next week’s coupons. And don’t forgot to immediately send off for those rebates- that’s where you’ll actually earn money on some items!
- And, for heavens sake, don’t miss the after holiday clearance sales, either!
Please do tell….what are your CVS money-making tips?

I use the green tag that takes gives you an extra buck every 4th shopping trip that you use a reuseable bag. I am sad to say that last year I got a TON of stuff free at CVS. It was awesome, but I have kind of fallen off the wagon. I would love to start couponing again, your post is a good motivator.
Great tips! I’m just entering the CVS couponing world!
